I’ve known Annalisa and Ben for a few years now as my wife Carrie used to work with Annalisa at The Playhouse Theatre in London, so we were delighted that they chose us to shoot their wedding at Coombe Abbey near Coventry. We’d already had their engagement shoot a couple of weeks previously so they knew what to expect from me photography wise on the day.
Coombe Abbey is a fantastic venue that I’d never had the pleasure of visiting before. Set in 500 acres of parkland, overlooking formal gardens and a tranquil lake and originally built as a Cistercian Abbey in the 12th Century it truly makes a stunning wedding venue. Having arrived the night before it gave us a good opportunity to have a look round the Abbey before the wedding on the next day. The day started with us getting some shots of Annalisa and her bridal party getting in her stunning bridal suite before we were able to venture down and get some shots of the boys getting ready – one of the advantages of having everything together at one venue.
The ceremony took place in the Baronial Hall in The Abbeygate with candlelit corridors bedecked in armour and tapestries with stone flagged floors. Annalisa looked stunning as she entered the hall with all eyes on her she took Ben’s breath away. It was a lovely ceremony that was full of emotion and happy tears. After the ceremony everyone was quick to congratulate the newlyweds before we moved over to the main Abbey for the drinks reception, I then took Annalisa and Ben off quickly before the light faded to get some lovely shots of just the two of them around the grounds.
The rest of the day was such a pleasure to be involved in as a guest as well as being their photographer, a lovely wedding breakfast followed by a fantastic cheesecake and of course the first dance. I’d set up a corner later on for the photo booth which was a big hit at the end of the night.
